Richard J. Kosmerl

The Northeast Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association extends its deepest condolences to the family of Retired Chief Richard Kosmerl. 

RICHARD J. KOSMERL, age 82, died Dec. 26, 2021 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Hts.

Rich is the beloved husband of Maureen; dear father of Katie Kromar (Jack), Sue Sweeney (Mike), Janet Gaugler (Dan), Rich (Darcy), Dennis (Lisa); grandfather of Tess, Julie, Kelly, Kevin, Molly, Michelle, Mary, Katie, Maddie, Aaron, Ryan, Michael, EJ and Emma; great grandfather of Emily and Luke; brother of Agnes Tercek (Al) (both deceased) and Frank (Joan).

Rich was the retired Deputy Chief of the East Cleveland Fire Department for 25 years and the Fire Chief of the University Heights Fire Department for 10 years. Rich was also a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday Dec. 30, 2021 at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, East 200 St. and Lake Shore Blvd. in Euclid.

Interment will take place at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

The family will receive friends at BRICKMAN BROS. FUNERAL HOME, 37433 EUCLID AVE. IN WILLOUGHBY ON WEDNESDAY FROM 3-7 PM. (THE FAMILY IS REQUESTING MASKS BE WORN AT VENUES).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Villa Angela St. Joseph High School in Rich’s name.

He has served his community well.  We appreciate his years of service.
